Live for Now!

Stop living for the past.
We can remember, and learn from it...
but we shouldn't live for it.

I have fond memories of my youth,
and of my early adulthood.
But I shouldn't get in a funk about growing older.

I'm still young,
and will look at my current life in the future,
again with fondness.

Always live for the now.
Don't have any regrets.
Make it all count.

You won't be able to live it again...

More on this...

While reading and watching news reports today, I was struck at the way most World Leaders Eulogized Yasser Arafat. All but the United States of America praised Arafat, describing him as a 'Statesman', and a man of 'Courage and Conviction'. Even the United Nations got in on the act.

Now. I don't want to take sides on the Middle East conflict, because I have major issues with the way both sides have handled the situation over there. I don't think either side is innocent. To describe Arafat in these ways, and to have such a diplomatic funeral, with representatives from all of these countries doesn't seem right to me. The fact is that this man used some vicous and cruel tactics to try and further his cause. I can understand the anger that those people feel because of the way they are being treated, but their actions just help to perpetuate the violence, as do the retaliatary actions of the other side.

It just doesn't seem right to be praising this man, when he did the things that he did, while the United States of America is being constantly criticised for their efforts in this so called 'War on Terror'. He should be equally criticised; just because somebody dies, doesn't clean their life slate.

Generations lived with him...

Generations of people lived with Yasser Arafat in the news.

I can remember as a child during the 70's and 80's, constantly hearing his name on the news, but not understanding exactly what was going on. Lots of fighting and death, as there still is in the Middle East.

Then during the 90's he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, along with the Isaeli leaders. But that peace didn't last long, because both sides began killing each other again by the end of the decade. Almost daily it was either suicide attacks or retaliatary attacks.

Now he is dead, at the age of 75. Seeing his picture, he looked like he was at least 85. We probably won't know exactly what was wrong with him.

The old boys are slowly dying away, and will all be dead within a decade or so. Reagan died too this year, although he was ill for quite a while.

It's all a reminder that we are all getting old. The children of this age will look back and remember Dubya, Sadam, and OBL; always hearing their names on the news, but not knowing exactly what was going on, except for lots of fighting and death.

Will their kids also know the Middle East for this in the decades to come? I hope and wish that they won't have to.

Another week begins.

Another week begins, after a hectic week has ended. Not only was last week a big news week, with the U.S. Presidential Election, but there was also other news that included Yasser Arafat getting very ill. The U.S. are mounting a major offensive in Faluja Iraq, which some say could potentially be a very bloody battle.

To top all of that off, for me the week was super busy at work, and I had to do some work over the weekend, for the first time in over one and a half years. I know it sucks to be working like this, but it makes me look forward to the Christmas break.

I went to see the movie 'Saw' with LR last week. It tended to remind both of us of the movie 'Seven'. It was entertaining. I saw 'Back to the Future' over the weekend on T.V., which got me thinking of LR's good friend Titor, the tyme travelling Internet dude. There seems to be a lot of Irregularities with tyme travel, that would have to be sorted out.

I also saw the movie 'Fargo' on t.v.; actually , I watched the second half of the movie. I always liked that movie, and it hasn't lost any of it's appeal to me.

I've been told that I should definitely check out the movie 'What the bleep do we know', ASAP. Apparently it's a life changing movie, dealing with Quantum Physics. Physics has always been something I've enjoyed, although I never did well in my High School Physics class. I did some research a few years ago on Quantum Physics, but found it very confusing. I also want to see 'The Motorcycle Diaries', which LR and myself are supposed to see soon.

So much over the past week that deals with movies. What does that mean? Does it signify something new in my life?

My Oma moved into a Nursing Home on Friday. She's actually pretty happy to be there, since she's 93 years old, and was still living on her own. She was getting scared being alone, because she fell a couple of times. She was lucky that she didn't hurt herself, but she always wanted somebody to stay with her. She is now happy to have the 24 hour help at the nursing home, and it's a pretty nice place.

So what am I trying to say here? I guess that GWB won the election because of the Christian Evangelical Right. I've had discussions over this, and I believe the election results had a lot to do with Religion. The Southern Baptists are very much into having a 'Born Again Christian' in office, that understands their issues. It's all kind of scary if you ask me...

Anyway, on to another week of work...

Stop Boring Me...

...with all this election shinanigans. I'll look to see the ending in the morning. Right now it's Bush 193, Kerry 133.

DB

It's all red...

The country is looking more and more as if it will end up being red.

I keep getting confused, looking at the election maps. Republicans are red, while Democrats are blue. But up North, the Liberals are red, and the Conservatives are blue.

Thank gawd we don't have an elephant and jackass though...

9:00 pm Update...

Oh, how annoying it is to listen to these idiots on T.V. Thank gawd there's a 4 year break between elections.

It's not looking good for Kerry right now; Bush is consitently getting more EV's than Kerry, although the 'Big' states have not been projected.

Bush has a projected 155 EV's, and Kerry 112.

Fox News... What a disappointment.

Tonight is the first time that I've had a chance to actually watch Fox News for any extended period of time, because we here do not have access to it. But tonight, Fox TV is showing the Fox News coverage, and I must say it is very disappointing!

What's the big deal of it all? The commentators are boring, and annoying; the grapix is really cheesy, kind of reminding me of those local Buffalo stations. And the set seems like something City would do.

CNN is a much better show in my opinion...

I predict that Fox News will begin their slide down the ratings ladder pretty soon.

DB

8:00 pm Update...

As of 8:00 pm, all of the networks are giving Kerry 77 Electoral Votes, and Bush 66. The big states, including Ohio and Florida, haven't given up enough information yet to say who will get them.

DB

Who Will Win?

Who will win the U.S. election tonight? Is it too close to call? We'll find out soon enough.

I've been watching CNN right now, and they're declaring winners in certain states, because of the exit poles. Is this a good thing? We can still remember 4 years ago, when everybody declared Gore the winner, until Fox News decided to declare Bush the winner.

I'll be watching CNN, Fox News, CBC Newsworld, CP24, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC. And then I'll also have Firefox watching CNN.com, FoxNews.com, CBCnews.com, BBCnews.com, among others.

I don't know why I'm watching this so closely, because elections drive me crazy. I guess it's like the car accident that I pass on the highway; I keep saying to myself "Don't look", but at the last second I do look.
